Ashwin Kagdadia Scholarship

At Staffordshire University, we place students at the heart of everything we do, and supporting the Horizon Fund, helps support every student with ambitions and aspirations to be the very best they can be, and take a step towards their brighter future. This is a belief that echoes across our connected community - with the many donations of gift, time, and opportunities, our students have experienced the generosity of our donors and have already achieved incredible things.

One-way students are supported via the Horizon Fund is through the Ashwin Kagdadia Scholarship.

"I think a lot about my father when I think about the impact of the scholarships. Everybody thinks their father is the greatest and I am no exception. He was very wise. He came from humble beginnings in India and he always believed in the importance of education, but he was pulled out of school early to help with his older brother's business. This saddened him greatly.

Later in life he excelled as a goldsmith and crafts person, but he always wondered what he could have achieved if he had been allowed to progress in education. All of that affected my thought process when I decided to start the scholarship fund.

The flat I invested in is non-profit making. All the rental income is redistributed via my scholarship fund to students in financial hardship. My foundation aims to support people through education where possible. I hope that with this extra financial help, the students will conscientiously apply themselves and do all they can to become successful in life.

Hopefully this assistance enabled them somehow, empowers them a little and helps in their success. Then someday they will remember this and hopefully, they too, will become alumni donors at Staffordshire University."

"The scholarship money in my first year of study at Staffordshire University has provided me the opportunity to undertake my short commissioning course of the University Officers’ Training Corps during summer. During this time, I have developed my leadership skills which provide a valuable asset at university to working with teams in the classroom and presenting group projects confidently for others."

"The Ashwin Kagdadia Scholarship provided an amazing opportunity for help towards covering the costs of travel and help me afford equipment which otherwise, I would not have access to.

Having a laptop that I can take on trains whilst I travel means I can prioritise my studies all the time. Moreover, during my course, there is a lot of photography involved whilst documenting a crime scene. As a result, having the opportunity to purchase a high-quality camera means I can not only practice this skill but improve upon it outside of the university."

"The scholarship has helped me to further enrich my learning experience by providing equipment, digital properties and experiences, in which I can explore my desired interest with more comfortability and assurance. Digital properties will greatly help to stimulate the process of thought and idea creation. This funding would provided me with more freedom for this experimentation with less constraint over the cost "
