PGCE Bursary

At Staffordshire University, we place students at the heart of everything we do, and supporting the Horizon Fund, helps support every student with ambitions and aspirations to be the very best they can be, and take a step towards their brighter future. This is a belief that echoes across our connected community - with the many donations of gift, time, and opportunities, our students have experienced the generosity of our donors and have already achieved incredible things.

One-way students are supported via the Horizon fund is through the PGCE Bursary.

One of our secret donors continues to support aspiring teachers at Staffordshire University. The retired teacher who prefers to remain anonymous has donated to support over 50 PGCE students, to help them with costs towards their studies and teaching materials to be used on their teaching placement.

"I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the generous bursary you have awarded me. I am very grateful, this money will help support me in my studies whilst I also look after my three children. I have worked with children in many different capacities for over ten years, and now I am finally fulfilling my dream, to become a teacher. With the donation from you, I can complete my studies comfortably and even buy some great textbooks that I have had my eye on.

Thank you once again for your generosity and kindness.

"I would just like to say a huge Thank you for selecting me to receive and donating this bursary grant. It will make a huge difference to my studies and life whilst at university and I am extremely grateful for this. I cannot wait to complete my postgraduate certificate in education and proceed with my career in teaching. Once again thank you for providing me with this opportunity."

- Annie

"I would like to say thank you for your generous donation, not just for me but on behalf of all PGCE students that you continue you to support year on year. I have chosen to go back to university to pursue my passion for teaching Physical Education. The decision to get back into education was a decision that I did not take lightly but I am so glad that I have. This donation will help to make a difference to my PGCE experience as it will help to ease some financial pressure while studying on the course.

I wish you all the best during these hard times and I once again thank you for your support."

- Calum

"I am writing this letter to show my appreciation for your generosity of rewarding me with a donation towards my studies. Having only just commenced the PGCE course, I have already grown a love for making a difference within young children’s lives. Not only will I be able to purchase the books and materials needed to help me be successful in completing the course and working towards becoming a great teacher, but it will also enable me to provide a strong future for me and my two young girls. Who inspire me every day to achieve more and more and to help provide a better future for them.

Once again thank you for your willingness to help me achieve my dream in becoming a teacher in providing me with financial support."

- Sophie

"I am writing to thank you for your generous and extremely kind donation to help with my studies this year. Teaching is something that I have wanted to study for a while, and I am so glad that I decided to take the plunge. In the few weeks we have been in placement I have loved getting to know the children and begin to have an impact on their learning through my teaching inputs and support.

Your donation will go a long way to helping make such a demanding year that little bit easier. I have always worked hard to achieve my goals. My foundation degree and BA Hons degree were achieved whilst working full time running two busy private day nurseries and that’s where my enjoyment of learning and helping to provide a better future for children began. I feel as though these have been the foundations to help me with the busy schedule and demands of the PGCE course. Although teaching is a demanding profession the reward of seeing children achieve is most definitely worth all of the hard work.

Thank you once again for your kind donation."

"I am extremely grateful to be awarded the PGCE Bursary for my training this year. Over the course of my PGCE year I hope to develop my subject knowledge, teaching style and confidence to gain the skills required to be an outstanding teacher. I believe studying at Staffordshire University will give me the essential environment, training and confidence I require to flourish as a teacher. By awarding me the Bursary, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of the course, learning.

I write this having just taught my first full lesson! A successful lesson with lots to take away and learn from. I feel motivated and enthused. I hope to continue to build on the skills and knowledge I have gained thus far and strive to give the best possible teaching experience throughout the children’s educational development.

Thank you again for your generosity."

- Theresa

"Thank you for your generous donation towards my PGCE Primary studies. The substantial amount that you have contributed will support me throughout the course with aspects such as travel, daily living, and most importantly towards resources which I will use when planning and aiming to develop the progress of all students, covering a broad curriculum.

I am extremely thankful and admire your generosity."

- Lauren

"Thank you so much for the generosity in awarding me the PGCE Bursary during this academic year whilst I complete my PGCE at Staffordshire University. I have always wanted to be a teacher and believe that upon completion of this course I will be a qualified teacher and able to pursue my dream career.

This bursary will help cover the costs of travelling to my placement school enabling me to gain the valuable experience necessary whilst alleviating some financial pressure."

- Mia

"I am writing to thank you for your generous donation of the Primary PGCE bursary to not only myself but those who it may also benefit. I am appreciative to learn that I was selected to be a recipient of your thoughtful gift and please note that it will most certainly help with my academic studies.

This donation will support my development throughout this year and the following years as a qualified teacher through many aspects, for example travel, school resources, planning and ensuring that children are in a happy environment where they will thrive. Their progression whilst learning is the most important factor in my continuing development. Your kindness is an act I wish to provide in future to ensure stability to students who are in a similar position to mine and provide them with the opportunities you have given to me.

I am extremely thankful and admire your generous donation."

- Kate

"I really appreciate the help as I have always dreamed of being a primary school teacher ever since I was inspired by a teacher of my own when I was a child. I decided to take the leap of faith into this career path and I am thoroughly enjoying it and reflecting on my ever changing world now that I am teaching on my placement.

The money is going to assist my efforts in providing some drama props and costumes so that the students in the school I am in will be able to expand their knowledge of literature by developing their drama skills. I have suggested play writing then role playing the characters or acting out scenes from literature books that the children are currently reading as a class. Being on this course has given me a new lease of life and working in a primary school is truly inspiring and wonderful!

Thank you ever so much again."
